Matthieu Wotling

matthieu wotlingMatthieu Wotling is an Architect, Project Director at Kengo Kuma & Associates and founding Partner at Volga Urbanism & Landscape.

 

He obtained his architect diploma INSA-ENSAIS with highest honours and jury congratulations in Strasbourg in 2004 after making a third year study exchange at the EPFL in Switzerland. Following his graduation, he contributes to the Tempus European Union’s external program in Ukraine that supports modernisation of higher education systems in the EU partner countries and neighbouring states and he takes part on numerous international juries for publics competitions. Alongside his architectural practice, he participates actively in the academic field. Matthieu taught at the Ecole Special de Paris and is a regular jury member for students diploma in ENSA Versailles and INSA Strasbourg architectural schools.

 

After joining Kengo Kuma team in Tokyo’s office in 2008, he provides overall leadership for the ongoing projects in Europe and also enforces the strategic and design direction of the firm’s development in Paris.

 

In 2014, he is awarded with the Palmarès des Jeunes Urbanistes, prize given by the french government. He is also multiple laureate of the Europan international competition for young architects in 2014 (Green Belt Dilation in Paris), in 2010 (Connex[City] in Saintes) and in 2008 (Empreint3s in Le locle, Switzerland). His work is a tightrope walking game trough architecture and urbanism. He gives particular attention to the convergence of territorial, constructive and programmatic issues while focusing on Kengo Kuma’s research about spaces and experimented materials poetry.

 

He is co-director of the Kengo Kuma Paris office and he currently develops several projects in Europe including the Saint-Denis Pleyel Emblematic train station which will become one of the main hubs in the „Grand Paris” express lines and Mont Blanc Base Camp headquarter awarded with the National Wooden Construction Prize for Publics and Tertiary buildings in France in 2016.
